Talking trash: Travellers disgusted by state of bins

THE beautiful overnight rest stop at Apple Tree Creek has travellers upset over neglected rubbish collection.

The popular stop had one local resident outraged over the rubbish bins left full to overflowing.

Jenny Webb said it was outrageous.

"The rest stop is popular with tourists and us locals and should be cleaned every day," Mrs Webb said.

"I run a small business from here and I have had some travellers comment on the park."

A Bundaberg Regional Council spokesperson said the bins at the Apple Tree Creek Rest Stop were emptied twice a week.

Allan Street, from Caboolture, said he was shocked with the condition of the bins.

"I travel most of the year depending on my health and Apple Tree Creek is one of my favourite places to stop," Mr Street said.

"It's winter and it's Queensland's tourist season, you would think the bins would be cleaned out daily, it's disgusting to look at."

The council is investigating the necessity of providing additional bins at this location during school holidays due to an influx of visitors.

"Have a look at that bin near the toilet block, it's overflowing and there's a dirty baby's nappy on the ground," Mr Street said.

Mr Street raised the question - if it looks like this now, what would it look like after the weekend?

The council would like to remind residents the bins are provided for the use of park visitors and not for the disposal of domestic waste.

Anyone wishing to report overflowing bins in parks and natural areas throughout the region can phone the council on 1300 883 699.
