Friendlies Hospital looks across the street for expansion

THE Friendly Society Private Hospital is progressing with its expansion to the other side of Crofton St.

As previously reported by the NewsMail, the hospital has bought houses on Crofton St and is using them as office space.

But as the master plan progresses, the hospital will remove any valuable fittings from the houses before demolishing them.

The material change of use application was approved at an Ordinary Meeting of Bundaberg Regional Council yesterday and will see the development of a building comprising 40 medical consulting suites with 10 on each level of the 17m-high building.

A total of 89 ground-level car parking spaces will be created over the entire siteof the building.

The facility is viewed by the hospital as a "vital investment" to retain and recruit specialist doctors for the hospital's patients.

To prevent the building overshadowing the adjoining residential units, the hospital agreed to move the building 1.5m closer to Crofton St.

The building will be 4.5m from the near property boundary and 4.4m from the Crofton St alignment.
