Free movie for local families

GRAB the family a warm picnic blanket and head down to Anzac Park for an outdoor movie event under the stars on Thursday July 23.

As part of the Riverside Master Plan consultation, Bundaberg Regional Council is partnering with the combined Rotary Clubs of Bundaberg to run an outdoor movie night, showing Despicable Me 2 to promote the use of the park for temporary activities.

Council's Planning and Development portfolio spokesperson Cr Ross Sommerfeld said the event was a novel means to engage people with the Riverside space and think about the regular events and activities that can occur in the space.

"The whole concept of running a movie in the park is to create an interesting and interactive community-based activity that will get people out of their homes to spend time with family and friends.

"The sheer size and uniqueness of the outdoor movie (open air cinema) concept will hopefully draw people to the Riverside's green space and provide a practical demonstration of the many uses for the precinct.

"The use of Place Activation or interim development within the Riverside precinct creates the potential to breathe new life into the space and allow the community, visitors and businesses to begin to engage with the Riverside and perceive it in a new way."

Cr Sommerfeld said the assistance of the combined Rotary Clubs was appreciated as the service clubs would handle the sausage sizzle and associated refreshments for sale.

"It would be great to see the park full of families," he said.

"The Rotary Clubs ran a similar movie night for Anzac Day and Council is of a view that by holding the free movie night residents will be able to attend and view the proposed Riverside Master Plan in relaxed surroundings.

"We are encouraging feedback from our community and officers will be in attendance to discuss any aspect of the plan," Cr Sommerfeld said.

"Food will be available from 5pm and the movie will start at 6pm."

"We hope the people of Bundaberg and surrounds will come along and support this movie night, find out a little more about the Riverside Master Plan and the Combined Rotary Clubs of Bundaberg who do amazing work for our local community."
