Flu cases up 33% on last year

FLU season has hit Queensland hard with 3940 people coming down with the virus so far this year, the highest number of confirmed cases in the country.

Confirmed cases are up 33% on last year.

Emergency Services Foundation spokesman Dr Anthony Bell said the traditional flu season peak was in August but the rise in confirmed cases suggested an early start.

Dr Bell requested people to do their part by regular hand washing, coughing and sneezing into tissues or handkerchiefs, staying at home when you have flu symptoms and seeing your family doctor for a flu vaccination.
