WHEN Colin Brereton and Michael Finn went fishing in the Mary River near Beaver Rock, it was in the back of their minds that they might get to see one of the elusive crocodiles that have taken up residence in the area.

Mr Brereton said he wasn't really expecting to see anything, but when the fishing was quiet the two decided to move closer to Saltwater Creek.

As they moved to the new area, that's when they spotted the croc.

"It's was about four-and-a-half metres long - it was a good size," Mr Brereton said.

Both Mr Brereton and Mr Finn got their phones out and started taking photos and filming the croc as it basked in the sun on Sunday morning.

But the croc didn't enjoy the extra attention and moved back into the water.
