With no phone, Mr Quade banged on the inside of the doors until a passer-by heard his call for help.

"I belted the hell out of the door and yelled out as much as I could until someone heard me and luckily someone was walking past," Mr Quade said.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services was called after the elevator manufacturer said they could not arrive until tomorrow.

"Thank them very much. They did a really good job," Mr Quade said to the firefighters.

"From the time they got there until they got me out wouldn't have been five minutes."

Mr Quade said he would not be getting into another elevator "too quick".
