Firefighters called to fake fire

FIREFIGHTERS have slammed hoax Triple 0 calls as dangerous and a waste of resources this morning.

The calls come after crews were falsely called to a house fire on Electra St at about 7pm last night.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Bundaberg station officer Vicki Shailer said prank calls tied up valuable resources when they were made.

“Because it was a house fire we called in another crew to have an extra pump there,” she said.

“It’s also a danger to the public as we are rushing to get to the structure fire.”

Ms Shailer said fake calls risked lives as there may be a real emergency while firefighters were tied up with a prank.

She said that hoax calls were not a frequent occurrence in Bundaberg.
