Final day of state champs

Wide Bay has a chance to capture the state championship when the team takes on fellow competition leaders Far North Queensland at Kendalls Flats today.

The team, which features six Bundaberg stars, made up for its first loss of the Queensland under-12 championships on Wednesday with a big win against Darling Downs/South West Queensland yesterday.

Wide Bay scored a massive 204 for no loss in a 17-run win.

Brothers junior Joel Saunders led the way with the bat, scoring 53 runs before he retired while YMCA’s Jayden Grogan had a monster day with the ball, taking 3/13.

Strong performances yesterday from Metropolitan South West and Far North put both teams in the running going into the final day.

But a big win by Wide Bay today could be enough to clinch the win.

MSW beat Mackay-Whitsunday yesterday while Bundaberg North was too strong for North Queensland and Gold Coast had a big victory over Central Queensland.
