Tania desperate for a place to live as cancer takes hold

AS IF raising two kids on your own while fighting ovarian cancer is not tough enough, Tania Houlders has another problem: keeping a roof over their heads.

The Brightwater single mum is battling to find a new rental home at the same time as she is fighting for her life.

She underwent major surgery in Brisbane this week. As well as resuming chemotherapy, she has endured a fruitless search to find a new home after she leaves hospital.

Tina and her children have to leave their home of two years because the owners need it for an elderly relative.

Tina was given two months notice to vacate by July 21.

Tina is up against a shortage of affordable rentals but the problem is compounded because she cannot work.

She has contracted out her cleaning and childcare business to a friend.

She is not eligible for the medical disability benefit.

She is grateful to the chaplaincy service at her children's school for assisting with food and friends who have given her a helping hand.

"It's the system that's let me down," she said.

"Friends, they haven't let me down."

Tina wants to find a three bedroom property in the Mountain Creek school zone that is no more than $420 a week, and preferably in the $300-$400 range.

If you can offer Tina a home, phone family friend Lisa Armstrong on 0450 514 463.
