In January this year, the Federal Cabinet voted to scrap the 1am lockout and bring in mandatory ID scanning in nightclub precincts instead over coming months.
The decision came after Ministers received an interim report in the first six months of liquor reforms, which found there had been no "obvious reduction" in alcohol-related assaults since alcohol service restrictions began on July 1 but there had been a continuing downward trend in common assaults between 8pm and 6am and a continuing downward trend in ambulance call outs, including in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley.
