Festive times Stage is set for Childers festival fun

JUST a handful of days before Childers sets the stage for its annual Multicultural Festival.

This year's festival, the 20th to be held will be reason to celebrate.

The traffic will again be diverted and Churchill St will be given over to the street vendors, entertainment and festival patrons.

The Childers festival, in recent years had attracted crowds in excess of 40,000.

"There is free parking at the Childers Showground and parking for disabled.

"Parking permit holders available on the corner of Crescent and Lord streets," Cr Peters said.

Childers will again host an iconic festival, gaining attention and interest from across the state.

With more entertainment, more food and more people, the township of Childers will be the place to be.

Cr Peters said festival-goers should also be aware that, apart from registered guide dogs, this was a "no-dog" event.

"Wide Bay Animal Rescue will be onsite at the Childers Showground on Sunday, July 26 offering a dog-minding service," she said.

"This service will be available between 9am to 3.30pm at a cost of $10 per dog.

"Your dog will have a shaded area, water, exercise and companionship, with funds raised going to Wide Bay Animal Rescue."

The business owners on Churchill St have got into the spirit and decorated shop windows.

One lucky shop owner will win the best dressed window. Who will it be?

This year will be bigger and better than the last.

New to the festival are two Heritage Tours and will take place on Saturday, July 25.

Also new, and well worth seeing is the Isis Central Sugar Mill and Cane Fire Tour.

The Childers Festival starts Saturday, July 25 and concludes Sunday.
