Festival folks roll in

THE hills of Woodford came alive with the sound of music as day one of the folk festival started in fine form.

With plenty to see and do the fresh-faced crowd rolled through the front gate eager to soak up as much action as possible before they endured their first night of camping.

Fashion-savvy youth traipsed around in skin-tight jeans and slicked-back coloured hair, unaware or unfazed that their style would not stand the Queensland summer for long.

It was clear a few street performers were already struggling in the warm conditions.

Young pollie Wyatt Roy was also spotted enduring the heat at the event.

One of the drawcards of day one was unique voice Andy Bull who kicked off his first set of the week to a jam-packed crowd in the Bazaar tent.

The Sydney based showman, whose performance included his well-known song Dog, did not fail to impress, despite the early timeslot.

Workshops gave festival-goers new and entertaining skills - from fiddle making and life drawing to weaving and sculpting.

The abundance of professional circus and fire performers floating around the Woodfordia site encouraged punters to bring out their inner showman.

Huddled away on day one were the Lanterneers as they prepared their magical masterpieces for the Welcome Ceremony later on.

The event officially opens Woodford 2011/12.
