Fed will sport the maroon

IT is not quite the Cauldron, and he will not be running out with Billy Moore shouting “Queenslander” in his ear.

But the kid they call Fed will get a taste of State of Origin action when the best under15s from both states clash on the Sunshine Coast next weekend.

Federico Keil, who hits with Luke Gerry daily, got the late call-up, but is keen to now show he should have been there in the first place.

“The call-up was pretty good news. The guy who pulled out is actually going to Texas with Luke, so I jumped at the chance,” Keil said yesterday.

Much like his world number one namesake, Fed has his head screwed on.

“He has the right attitude to be a good tennis player, which is hard to find these days,” Banner said.
