Favourites take out finals glory
THE finals of the Bundaberg Radiology term three junior table tennis season both went to the favoured teams - but only just -in the rounds last week.
In Division One, Leadin defeated Fired Up 3-1 as Leah Scott again showed her ability to use control and power. She defeated Natasha Jefferson in four games, despite a lapse in concentration in the third game. Fired Up's Andrew Udal evened the score with a straight games result against Odin Luketic, before Scott defeated Udal in five games. Luketic sealed the title against Jefferson after fighting back from two games to one down. Odin won the final game 11-9 to give Leadin the premiership three matches to one.
Kay-Zed, hot favourites for Division Two, were pushed to the limit by Team D's brother and sister combination of Atharv and Dhriti Singh Panwar, even though the final score was also 3-1.
Atharv won the first singles from Zac Faint, recovering from losing the first game to claim the next three 11/8, 11/9, 12/10. But that was where the challenge ended for Team D.
Kay-Zed's Kody Owttrim battled to overcome Dhriti in the next match, winning the third game at deuce before running away with the fourth. Owttrim then defeated Atharv in four games to give Kay-Zed a 2-1 match lead. In the final singles, Faint then defeated Dhriti in five games to win the title.
A junior coaching clinic is scheduled for the second week of the school holidays, from 10am to 1pm on Tuesday to Thursday. The clinic is open to all players, whether club members or not.
