Father never held licence, caught driving with kids in car

A SCENIC RIM father who has never held a licence was caught driving with his children in the car.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday, Chris Lee Ingram pleaded guilty to the unlicensed driving charge.

The 30-year-old had been travelling along the Cunningham Hwy in Clumber when he was pulled over on August 28.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Brad Dick said Ingram told officers he was on his way home from picking his kids up from school.

A police check revealed the father of three had never held a licence.

Defence lawyer Alexis Oxley said Ingram was a disability support pensioner and had never applied for a driver's licence due to his disability.

"My client accepts he drove on this occasion without a lawful reason to do so," she said.

Magistrate Stuart Shearer noted Ingram had prior traffic offences.

"You should not be behind the wheel without a licence at all, let alone driving around unlicensed with children in the car," he said.

"I also see you've been accruing traffic tickets at the same time."

In addition to the unlicensed driving charge, Ingram also pleaded guilty to an unrelated offence.

He was fined $1200 and disqualified from applying for a learner's permit for six months.
