Fatal bike crash: Rider thrown over barrier into river

A MOTORBIKE rider has lost control on a bend and collided with a barrier, throwing the rider over the barrier and into a river.

Police investigations suggest the fatal crash occurred around 10.20pm last night.

The rider was heading along Ann Street in Brisbane when they lost control around the bend to the on ramp towards Coronation Drive.

The motorbike collided with the side barrier, the impact throwing the rider over the barrier and into the Brisbane River.

A search was carried out by Water Police and other emergency services.

The rider was located near the Queen Street Ferry Terminal and sadly, the 31-year-old from the Gold Coast was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No one else was injured during the incident.

The Forensic Crash Unit is appealing to anyone travelling through the city, along Ann Street towards the on ramp to the Riverside Expressway and Coronation Drive that has dashcam footage or witnessed the motorcycle prior to the crash to contact them.

Investigations are continuing.
