Fatal accident on Cunningham Highway

AN elderly man has been killed when his vehicle rolled on the Cunningham Highway near Bestbrook at 7.30am today.

Sergeant Shane Reid, of Warwick police, said it appeared the vehicle crossed the double line, drove off the right hand side of the road, hit the table drain, collided with an embankment and landed on its roof.

"The vehicle rolled an unknown number of times," he said.

Police, the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service and Queensland Ambulance Service responded to the call for help to a site approximately 200m east of Bestbrook.

The driver was heading east when the accident happened.

Sergeant Reid said at the scene that Police Scenes of Crime and the police traffic accident investigation officer were on the way to the accident site.

"There was excellent help from the public who notified emergency services and rendered assistance on scene and assisted with traffic control," he said.

The deceased was being removed from the scene by police with assistance from the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service.

The highway was not closed but traffic slowed through the site.
