Family day out in park

MEMBER for Bundaberg Jack Dempsey was over the moon with the success of the family fun day in the Botanic Gardens he organised yesterday.

"We certainly booked in the right weather for the day," he said.

"There were lots of families and young kids there."

Mr Dempsey said the day featured the normal fun activities, such as a jumping castle, face-painting and crafts.

"It was a great way to get people in the park for three hours," he said.

Mr Dempsey estimated the crowd at about 1500 people.

"That's really good for something put together at short notice," he said.

"We were probably expecting about 500 people maximum."

Mr Dempsey said the idea of the day was just to get families out into the Botanic Gardens and promote some of the activities that were available there.

He was hoping the day out could become an annual event after the success of the first one.

"I'm happy to talk to any community groups that would like to turn it into a bigger event, and I'd support it," he said.
