'Traumatised': Young family's 4WD plunges into deep water

A COUPLE and their two young children were left "traumatised" after their four-wheel-drive plunged into water at Double Island Point.

The family was with a group of drivers on the beach on Saturday, but got into trouble when stirred-up sand obscured visibility, hiding the edge of a drop-off.

Relative Rebecca Jane said she felt like someone was watching over the family.

"My two-year-old niece and five-year-old nephew were in the back," she said.

"Thankfully one window was down in the car so they could climb out as the car was filling up with water.

"It was a genuine accident and all involved are traumatised."

Harsh criticism was hurled at the driver on the I got bogged at Inskip Point Facebook page, but some who were on the beach at the time called the accident bad luck.

Others said the pictures showing the ute bonnet-deep in water were taken hours later, after the tide had risen.
