Fair Trading waits to hear from association

THE Avondale Community Progress Association has still not lodged its annual return for 2013.

The association is in its last days a president Bill Bransdon prepares to wind it up because of too few members.

And members of the Coal Free Burnett and Beyond anti-mining group had charged they tried to join the association but were refused.

A spokesman for the Office of Fair Trading said the Avondale Community Progress Association was incorporated on October 31, 2012.

Their first financial year ended on June 30, 2013.

He said associations had six months from the end of their financial year to conduct their AGM, so the association was due to hold their first AGM by December 31, 2013.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) received a letter from president Bill Bransdon on August 19, 2013 advising that the association was having difficulty in getting enough members to hold an AGM.

The spokesman said the association was granted an extension until January 31 to lodge their annual return.

As of Tuesday the annual return had not been lodged.
