Failed builder faces 52 charges

FORMER Coral Coast Homes director John Biles will face court on 52 criminal charges including misrepresentation and failure to deliver goods.

The charges relate to his time as a director of Coral Coast Homes, which went into liquidation last June owing more than $1 million.

Some of the charges also relate to Mr Biles's conduct when trading as Steelsmart Homes, a kit home supplier.

After a mention at Bundaberg Magistrates Court yesterday, the matter was adjourned until August 12.

Mr Biles has not entered a plea to any of the charges, which include nine counts of accepting payment without supplying services or goods, and a total of 43 counts of representing that he had a sponsorship, approval or affiliation that he did not have.

It is believed the case will be moved to Brisbane if Mr Biles pleads guilty, but any potential trial is likely to be held in Bundaberg.

The case will be prosecuted by the Office of Fair Trading.

Neither Mr Biles nor Fair Trading prosecutors attended yesterday's magistrates court hearing.
