Evans set to soar with East Magpies

RUGBY LEAGUE: Easts Magpies have completed their senior coaching appointments for 2012 with highly respected former long-time Wests player and coach Dennis Evans to take their League 11s reins.

Club vice-president Scott McIntyre said they were pleased to secure Evans' services after he had coached the Wests League 11s team to much success over the past two seasons, including the 2010 premiership.

"Dennis has always been a great clubman and he also gets involved in a lot of fund-raising and is great with the players, and is the perfect man we want be involved with Easts," McIntyre said.

He replaces veteran player/coach Athol Eggmolesse, whom McIntyre said was "still keen to play on for just one more year".

Evans joins club stalwarts Bruce Thorpe (A grade) and Allan Herbert (under-18) on the senior coaching panel.

McIntyre said Easts Magpies were looking good to improve on their 2011 results when their A graders bowed out in the preliminary final and their League 11s and under-18s were both beaten grand finalists.

But they were victorious in four of the five junior divisions.

McIntyre said they were still chasing a women's coach but that training for the three men's divisions would start next Tuesday at Easts Sports Club at 6pm.

New players are welcome in all grades and anyone interested can call McIntyre on 0437199887.
