NewsMail building goes on sale

THIS year will see the end of an era when the NewsMail moves out of the building in Targo Street it has occupied since 1925.

General manager Wayne Tomkins said the centralisation of services such as classifieds and advertising meant the NewsMail was in a situation where maintaining such a big building was very costly.

“This is a great opportunity to do things more effectively by moving,” he said.

“A number of changes over many years have led to the opportunity of cutting costs in tough times.”

Mr Tomkins said the company was looking at moving to a new building more suitable to its requirements while still remaining as close to the CBD as possible.

“This will give us the opportunity to offer off-street parking to our customers, which we don’t have now,” he said.

The old NewsMail building will be sold on site at auction on March 6 through John Fidden Real Estate.
