Emergency personnel keep hurt bushwalker company overnight

A BUSHWALKER has spent the night injured and awaiting rescue after hurting himself walking near Murwillumbah, police have said.

In a statement, NSW Police Media says the 60-year-old man injured his leg while walking in bushland near Tomewin, on the NSW/Queensland border, about 4pm yesterday.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter flew out to rescue the man but could not reach him because of the dense tree canopy.

Police, paramedics and volunteers trekked through the bush to reach the man and provide medical assistance and stay with him through the night.

The emergency personnel were taking the man to a clearing on a stretcher with the helicopter expected to winch him out about 9am.
