Cyclists ready for 4BU spectacular

BUNDABERG will have another local boy to cheer on in next week’s 4BU Cycling Spectacular Bundy Sugar Cup on Wheels at Kevin Brogden Memorial Velodrome.

Aaron Kemps is joining Allan and Scott Davis in the elite men’s field.

Bundaberg Cycling Club secretary Jason Templeman said it was great that Australia Criterium Champion Kemps had also entered the carnival, which will start on Friday, December 10 and resume on Saturday afternoon, running into the night.

“The reborn Cycling Spectacular will deliver some of the hottest cycling action ever witnessed here in the Rum City,” Templeman told the NewsMail.

“The Bundaberg public is being given a rare opportunity to see up close some of the sport’s true superstars,” he said.

“With a start list that contains current world, Commonwealth, Australian and state champions, world medallists, pro-riders, former world champions and Tour de France competitors, the event will be a very special moment in the sporting landscape, not to be missed.

“The Bundaberg Cycling Club has had some wonderful stars compete at 4BU Cycling Spectacular in years gone by, but never before can it be recalled that an elite men’s field like this year’s event has been assembled.

“But it is more than just about the elite riders. This event will unearth, showcase and open up the track cycling world to the rising stars of the sport, with juniors as young as five years taking to the track to compete.

“Then there are the masters of the sport, where yet another cycling household name has entered in Byron Tucker, brother of Australian track cycling legend Kenrick Tucker.”

A track spectacular will start a huge week of cycling in the city, with a world-class field also contesting the inaugural Hinkler Central Bundaberg International Criterium at Coral Isles Cyclists’ new Criterium Circuit this Sunday.
