Early goal not enough for the Wanderers

THE Wanderers may have scored one of the quickest goals in the Asian Champions League against Ulsan Hyundai on Wednesday night, but that was the only joy the Western Sydney outfit had in its ACL debut.

Despite the exquisite goal from striker Brendan Santalab (pictured) after just 43 seconds, the Wanderers went on to lose 3-1 to the 2012 ACL champions at Parramatta's Pirtek Stadium. Shin-Wook and Chang-Hyun gave the visitors a 2-1 lead at half-time, before Minsoo sealed the result in the 67th minute.

Just six minutes earlier, the hosts almost won a penalty with the ball appearing to strike Minsoo's arm, but Omani referee Abdullah Mohamed waved away appeals for a spot kick.

Melbourne Victory also started its campaign on a losing note, blowing a 2-0 half-time lead to go down 4-2 to champions Guangzhou Evergrande in China. Italian international Alessandro Diamanti scored twice for the hosts.
