Dutton seeking asylum seeker deals

THE Turnbull Government has been in talks with more countries to find ways to resettle asylum seekers, with only four refugees have reportedly resettled in Cambodia.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton told the ABC the talks with some unidentified "third parties" were under way.

He said the government had been working for a "long time" on new deals, but he believed the process of resettling refugees in other nations was being undermined by human rights advocates.

Mr Dutton's comments precede a challenge today in the High Court against the constitutional validity of Australia's offshore detention regime.

With the case approaching, Nauru confirmed on Monday that it planned to process up to 600 refugee claims of detainees week, but Mr Dutton told Lateline that timing had nothing to do with the court case.
