23 drug drivers in court as Road Safety Week wraps up

AS TODAY'S Road Safety Week message focusses on drink and drug driving, 24 drivers have faced Bundaberg Magistrates Court for the very same offences.

Of the 24 drivers due to front court yesterday, 23 where charged with drug driving and just one was for drink driving.

Among those to plead guilty to driving with a relevant drug present in their blood or saliva was 36-year-old Natasha Jurd. She returned a positive test for methamphetamine when stopped by police on July 14 at Broadmeadow Ave.

Jurd was fined $300 and disqualified from driving for one month.

Another driver off the road after pleading guilty to drug driving is 44-year-old Christopher Anthony Arkinstall. He returned a positive test for marijuana and methamphetamine after being tested by police on July 12 in Kepnock.

Yesterday he was fined $600 and disqualified from driving for three months.

The sole drink driver to plead to face court yesterday was 37-year-old Nicholas John Kennedy.

He returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.063% on July 24 and was fined $200 and disqualified from driving for one month.

Today is the last day of Road Safety Week, during which drivers have been reminded of how drugs and alcohol impairs drivers.
