Dogs on killing spree at zoo

TEN ducks were killed and a kangaroo maimed when two dogs broke into the Alexandra Park Zoo in the early hours of Friday morning.

Bundaberg Regional Council chief executive officer Peter Byrne said it was believed the dogs slipped their leads and jumped the fence.

“People need to be responsible and take control of their animals,” he said.

Animal control officers went to the zoo to catch the dogs — one a Rottweiler cross and the other a blue healer cross — as soon as council were alerted to the situation.

The officers caught the Rottweiler, but the blue healer jumped the two-metre fence and officers followed that dog home.

Mr Byrne said the dogs were in council’s careand had been declared dangerous.
