Dirty Dancing raises funds for women's cancers

CANCER Council Queensland is delighted to announce that Dirty Dancing has raised more than $63,700 in Queensland for Cancer Council's Pink campaign, supporting Queenslanders affected by women's cancers.

The funds raised through Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage will support around 4200 Queensland women diagnosed with breast and gynaecological cancers this year alone.

In Queensland, around $51,600 was donated via a special charity dress rehearsal performance in Brisbane, and a further $12,100 through bucket collections at other performances.

Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift thanked the cast and crew of Dirty Dancing for their generosity.

"Thanks to the support of Dirty Dancing, we are able to make a difference in the lives of Queenslanders affected by breast and gynaecological cancers," Ms Clift said.

"These much-needed funds will allow Cancer Council to work across every aspect of women's cancers, from research to prevention, support and advocacy.

"If you're affected by women's cancers - we invite you to reach out for practical, emotional and psychological support via 13 11 20 or cancerqld.org.au.

"Don't forget - there's still time to support Pink month too - you can host a Girls' Night In fundraiser throughout November to raise funds and awareness."

On behalf of his co-producers, Producer John Frost said he was thrilled to have raised over $120,000 nationwide for Cancer Council, the official charity for the national tour of Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage.

"I'd like to thank patrons who have bought tickets to our charity dress rehearsal and to other audiences who have donated through our bucket collection, enabling us to reach this terrific result for a very important charity," Mr Frost said.

"With the tour recently closing after an extraordinary year, I'd like to thank the cast and crew of Dirty Dancing who have supported this worthy cause for the entire tour."
