Devils too classy for Seagulls

THE Devils turned up with their heads screwed on against the Hervey Bay Seagulls at the weekend, obviously determined to atone for last round’s poor showing.

They led 12-6 at the break and scored the next 20 points to sew up the win.

However, the star-studded team was still unable to put together 80 minutes of its best football, allowing the Seagulls two soft tries in the final five minutes to flatter them on the scoreboard.

Tyrone Hopgood returned from injury for the Seagulls and slotted into the centres, rather than the second row.

But his presence was not enough to make up ground on the early-season premiership favourites, with the Seagulls always off the pace.

Faron Aubrey was among the best for Isis, while Manny Blair is hitting his straps at the right time of the season.

New uncle Simon Ricciardi was a constant menace in the ruck, making valuable metres every time he touched the ball. Lewis Hopkins was flawless with the boot, kicking six from six for the night.

Their win means they will line up against Easts next weekend, with both teams likely to fancy their chances of a win.

A lot depends on which Isis team turns up, but after a well-polished performance like Saturday night it seems they might have finally clicked into gear.
