DEVASTATED by the sudden and tragic death of vibrant seven-year-old Kailah Dawes, the Chinchilla community has embraced a grieving family in its darkest hour.

Mum Sateeva, step-dad Gary and brother Taij, 6, were heartbroken by the loss of their "little butterfly" Kailah, who died during a severe asthma attack on Sunday.

The tragedy has touched the hearts of Chinchilla residents, with support continuing to pour in for the family.

Within 15 minutes of hearing of the tragedy, the burden of funeral expenses had been lifted by an anonymous Chinchilla community group.

Only days later, catering for the wake was also donated and collection tins raised $4500.

Chinchilla kindergarten supervisor Len Lawton, who took it upon himself to co-ordinate the influx of financial support, said the overwhelming generosity showed Chinchilla was a special town.

"All everyone wants is peace for the family," he said.

"No-one wants accolades, they just want to allow the family to go through their grieving without having to worry about all that extra financial stress," Mr Lawton said.

Kailah's mum Sateeva said she did not yet have the words to properly show her gratitude to the community she joined only a year ago.

Kailah's grandma, Beth Walker, said she was "gob smacked" by the boxes of produce and home-cooked meals that were still arriving.

"We're all so humbled by it and we want to make sure everyone knows how deeply, deeply grateful we are."
