Dental blunder investigations over

INVESTIGATIONS into the cause of the sterilisation bungle at the Bundaberg Hospital Dental Clinic have been concluded — but not released.

The mistake prompted more than 230 patients to be tested for HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C after equipment was not sterilised due to a breakdown in procedure.

Sunshine Coast-Wide Bay Health Service District northern cluster manager Beth Norton said the hospital was acting on the recommendations in the report.

“In accordance with natural justice and standard procedure, staff has been given the opportunity to respond to the findings of the investigation report. Accordingly, it is not appropriate to publicly release the report given that doing so may prejudice ongoing actions at this point in time,” she said.
