Dempsey says government has failed

THE State Government's response to a question on notice about infrastructure in the Bundaberg electorate has revealed the extent of its failure to provide for the area, according to Member for Bundaberg Jack Dempsey.

"(Special Minister of State Paul Lucas's) response confirmed that Bligh Labor has ignored and neglected Bundaberg," Mr Dempsey said.

"I asked a question about what infrastructure the government had provided for Bundaberg in the past five years and what was planned for the future.

"The minister had to write about the budget for the Wide Bay-Burnett and projects in Childers and Gin Gin because his government knows it has treated Bundaberg as an afterthought."

For projects in the Bundaberg electorate, Mr Lucas could only name the Ring Rd, which blew out its budget by $50 million.

"As for future plans, the minister referred to more projects that are not in the seat, such as the Cabbage Tree Creek to Carmen Rd upgrade and the federally funded Isis River Bridge," Mr Dempsey said.

"It is no surprise that the Bligh Labor Government has neglected infrastructure in Bundaberg, considering it slashed Queensland's Main Roads budget."
