Delicious dessert pizza grows from cheeky suggestion
A SENSE of adventure, a little bit of invention and the help of social media has led to a delicious seasonal treat being offered in Bundaberg.
Nourish owner Judy Plath said the cafe had bought up local organic strawberries but were not sure what to do with them.
So they put the question to their Facebook friends and one cheeky suggestion from nearby Bundaberg Coins and Collectables' Dehlia Felesina got Mrs Plath thinking.
"We had an idea for a strawberry ripe smoothie with strawberries and chocolate and coconut," she said.
"Heaps of people put comments and one of our neighbours nextdoor put pizza and so we went to work and invented a dessert pizza with those ingredients."
Mrs Plath then took one to her business neighbour to try.
"She was killing herself laughing," Mrs Plath said.
"She really enjoyed it."
So what's on the dessert pizza?
"Basically we've used a chocolate ganache as a base with Organic Earth chocolate that we use which is sweetened with coconut sugar," Mrs Plath said.
"It's a really thin pizza base that's mildly sweetened and little pieces of chocolate that kind of melt when it goes in the oven.
"When we take it out we add flaked coconut and a drizzle made with coconut butter and sweetened with stevia."
Mrs Plath said the pizza is served in the cafe with a side of avocado chocolate mousse.
"The local strawberries are just a divine thing to work with," she said.
