Dark has day out at Gympie races
SATURDAY'S $55,000 Nolan Meats Muster Cup has another drawcard for the fashion-conscious ladies and men.
Popular Getaway TV presenter Ben Dark will be coming to the races to judge the Fashions of the Field.
A boy from the bush, Ben hit the big time when he landed a dream job as a reporter for the Nine Network's smash-hit travel show, 10 years ago.
He is loved for his quick wit and sense of adventure.
Gympie Turf Club president Spencer Slatter thanked Nolan's Meats for bringing Ben to the Gympie races.
He said Ben and his great sense of humour would add another dimension to the judging on race day.
Along with Ben, the Gympie Turf club has the Bundy Rum girls on hand with plenty of promotional giveaways for the punters.
The Muster Cup normally has the largest crowds of any event on the Gympie Racing calendar.
Mr Slatter said he was expecting more than 2000 people to take in all the action of the six races.
“We have the biggest prize- money on offer ever,” he said.
“We have the National Australia Bank coming in as first-time sponsors and all our marquees are fully booked.”
He said he expected Muster patrons to come along and watch some great country racing and kick on to enjoy the after-race party.
Races will start earlier than usual this week with the first race jumping at 12.30pm.
The race times have been brought forward so jockeys can get to the Caloundra night races on time.
Entry to the race day is $8.
