Two cars collide

A TWO-car collision between the Elliott Heads Road and Churchward Street intersection narrowly avoided being the scene of a tragedy on Saturday.

Resident David Pohlman witnessed the accident, and said a pregnant pedestrian was almost hit as one of the vehicles rolled twice and landed on his footpath.

“A young girl who was over the back of our place had to run out of the way or she could have been hit,” he said.

“She was rather shaken up.”

Mr Pohlman said the near-miss was nothing new for the dangerous intersection.

“We see a lot of accidents in front of where we live, I happened to be gazing out the window and saw it unfold in front of me,” he said.

“Since I bought the house five years ago, the first year was quiet, but a dozen (accidents since then) would not be an exaggeration.

“A car has come up within five metres of our doorstep - it's just ridiculous.”

Mr Pohlman said he has tried to get Main Roads to put a guardrail in, particularly since there are many residents who walk through the section to access shopping facilities.

Bundaberg Police sergeant Mike McLellan said the accident, at 11.30am, was between a Ford Falcon sedan and a Daihatsu.

He said it was the only traffic accident in Bundaberg on Saturday and there were no injuries.
