Daff in line to play at world champs
SOFTBALL: Former Bundaberg Softball Association campaigner Sam Daff is poised for selection to play in the 2012 World Softball Championships.
The international team will be selected following the under-19 men's national championships in January.
Daff captained the Australian U19 Colts during their successful campaign in the IV International Men's Softball Tournament in Argentina last month.
He has been training with the Queensland contingent of the Australian U19 Colts in Brisbane and hopes his performance in the recent international tournament will hold him in good stead for selection in the world championship team.
Daff played as shortstop in Australia's successful campaign in the second round of the tournament.
The Colts defeated Argentinean team Parana in the grand final, 5-1.
"The standard of softball over there was pretty tough," he said.
"The games were always close and tough and if you made a mistake the opposition was pretty unforgiving."
Daff began playing softball at the age of 10 in the Bundaberg Softball Association for Brothers United. He said selection in the under-19 squad to contest the world championships would be a dream come true.
"I've been in good form lately and we put in a really good effort over in Argentina," he said.
"I'll keep training hard and see what happens."
The World Softball Championships are held every four years.
