Dad hits another dad in queue for Movie World kids' ride

A SUNSHINE Coast dad who hit the father of a nine-year-old boy in a ride queue at Movie World has been ordered to do 80 hours community service.

Personal trainer Chilton Shaun Thomas Emslie, 36, from Maroochydore, on Thursday pleaded guilty to one count of common assault.

Police prosecutor Brendan Newman said the assault happened in front of children queueing for a kids-only ride at the Gold Coast theme park.

The victim's son was in the line ahead of Emslie and his child, and the boy's father had moved through the line to stand with him, when Emslie accused him of jumping the queue.

"The victim said 'it's a kids' ride, settle down man, lay off the crack pipe'," Sergeant Newman said.

He said Emslie moved towards the other man aggressively but did not touch him, and after the other man did not react physically, he slapped him on the head.

He was kicked out of the theme park, and told security, and later police, he had been provoked and offended by the victim's "crack pipe" comment.

Duty lawyer David Crews said Emslie did have past convictions for assault, but that they were from more than 10 years ago, when he was a young man.

He was ordered to serve 80 hours of community service.

The conviction was not recorded.
