Cups under way again after rain

IS the rain gone? The course has been mowed so players got their golf fix and the Cups are under way again.

Four of the men’s matches went past 18 holes but finished on the 19th while Lee Welsted and Barry Thomas took 20 holes to get on top of youngsters Michael Festing and 12-year-old Josh McLeod.

Rae Canniffe and Averil Chalmers seem keen to emulate last year’s win and took their match on the 19th from Ros Hodges and Sue Hardwick of Coral Cove.

After rumours that they could double up this year, Bruce Tree and Ray Austin succumbed to the pressure from Josh Best and Brad McCosh from Coral Cove on the 18th.

Vets winner John Menyweather and the quickly improving Bryce Pereka are sailing along well and got the wood on Dale and Adam Kirchner.

Mark Wooldridge surprised even himself by beating Peter Lee and Lyal O’Shanesy, one-up when his partner was out of town on the day, but he will have to work harder against the Lewis dynasty, Brian and Troy, this weekend.

Thomas Hall and Wayne Chalmers had all the answers against Shane Robertson and Duane Davis from Oakwood Park while Josh Turner and Blake Marschall are charging along in the Peter Hitchcock Memorial Plate event after giving Geoff Loveday and Russell Ezzy the day off next round.

Joy Faithfull and Beth Dummer played some great holes to put hopefuls Leone Burton and Jan Thomas from Bargara out of the Cup. Di Kleidon and Wendy Short had a close win and will now have their hands full against A graders Michelle Marsden and Deon Fleming.

Les Jackson hit a straight ball 141 metres for his hole in one on the 14th which brought a sly smile to his profile. “Skill, not luck!”

Ross McNeilly played so well on Saturday with 77 off the stick for 63 nett that his opposition left town on Sunday so he had a second win for the weekend. Don Nuzda won C grade with 64 nett so it was no surprise that he helped Merv Lydiard to a win on Sunday.

Our chef has lunches and snacks every Saturday and also Sundays for Cup days. Friday night is a chance to try his new menu. We need you to support your club and you could win prizes too.

Fourth round of Burnett Cup for men is Saturday 6th, and men and ladies quarter finals Sunday 7th.

March Monthly medals for men transferred to 27th and Shaw’s Recycle Products day sponsored by Neil Shaw is Saturday 13th. Men’s pennants are Sunday 7th.
