Email claiming to be from Australia Post sparks scam warning
A BUNDABERG computer business has issued a dire warning after a number of their business customers lost all their computer files as a result of a virus.
AMS Computers Jennifer Wright said business and residents should delete any email claiming to be from Australia Post as it was really a virus doing the rounds.
"We've had an escalating problem with our business customers for about 10 days now," she said.
"Our business customers are getting an email supposedly from Australia Post but what it is is a virus called Crypto Virus.
"It's a virus that encrypts all their files and there is no way of getting them back."
Mrs Wright said if customers had an external drive plugged in at the time of opening the email, it was also encrypting those files.
"Any emails that are reported to be from Austral Post should be deleted straight way. Don't open them, don't click on them," she said.
Mrs Wright said the emails say "you parcel is ready to be delivered" and when people click through, the computer is infected.
"For businesses it's bad. We've seen three in the last 24 hours."
