Chopper called to rescue woman from cruise ship

THE Westpac Life Saver Rescue helicopter was called out to airlift a woman who had fallen ill on a cruise ship yesterday.

The 51-year-old woman, on the Radiance of the Seas cruise ship travelling to Noumea from Sydney, was reported to be suffering from stomach pains.

The cruise ship, capable of carrying 2500 passengers, was intercepted by the rescue helicopter 22 miles east of Coffs Harbour.

After landing on the cruise ship the women was taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus without further incident and is in a stable condition.

This is the second time in two years the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter has landed on the Radiance of the Seas off Coffs Harbour to transport a patient.
