Wheelie bins used to block wayward croc
THINK about the locals of Karumba in Far North Queensland next time a neighbourhood pest sets itself up in your yard.
Locals spent New Year's Eve trying to get a crocodile, measuring 3.5 metres, out of the yard he swaggered into early on Saturday morning.
Queensland Police Service shared photos, and a few puns, on the unexpected guest.
The croc spent a few lazy hours basking in the backyard before sauntering to the front gate and promptly made that his home for the rest of the day.
"Officers and locals initially orchestrated a line of wheelie bins in an attempt to funnel him back towards the water but it became clear he wasn't keen to move. Perhaps due to a broken navi-gator?" QPS said.
"Officers then made the large scale decision to box him in with hay bales and contain him until wildlife experts from Cairns arrived to relocate him."
The town is more than 700km away from Cairns and was once a spot for crocodile hunting.
An 8.63 metre crocodile, a monster in croc terms, was shot near the town in 1957.
