Man gets bail after punching man
TWO young men were fined $350 each after deciding to go for a drunken late-night swim in the town pool.
Peter George Nixon, 18, of North Isis, and Tyson Dean Dale, of Childers, both pleaded guilty in Childers Magistrates Court in Friday to trespassing.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Hayley Glover told the court police had attended the Isis Aquatic Centre, in Churchill Street, about 10.30pm on Christmas Eve and found the two young men wet after a swim.
“They said they were hot after drinking at the local hotel, but that at no stage did they intend to do any damage,” Snr Const. Glover said.
Defence lawyer Matt Messenger, acting for Nixon, said his client was remorseful for the incident and understood police had better things to do with their time.
“This was a couple of foolish young lads who had too much to drink and were skylarking,” he said.
Mr Messenger said Nixon worked at a local supermarket and was working his way up to a career path in supermarket management.
Dale told magistrate John Smith he realised the late-night swim was “a stupid thing to do”.
The magistrate fined the defendants $350 each but did not record a conviction.
