Council approves Woodgate resort

A 19-UNIT tourist resort for Woodgate Beach Esplanade was approved by Bundaberg Regional Council at its general meeting yesterday.

The resort will be built in front of the existing Woodgate Hotel at 195 Esplanade, with a 108m frontage spanning four existing properties.

Each of the units will feature three-bedrooms, exclusive rooftop terraces for the top-floor units and basement parking.

Planning and development committee chairman Ross Sommerfeld said the existing Woodgate Beach Hotel, drive-through bottle shop and motel rooms would remain and there would be two entrances for pedestrians.

Parking for the hotel would be developed south of the building.

Cr Sommerfeld said four submissions were received about the development and council believed that all concerns had been adequately addressed.

Concerns about the rooftop terrace potentially overlooking other properties should be avoided by the inclusion of a planter-box parapet.

Cr Sommerfeld said the development was in the right location for this type of development.

The resort would have a maximum height of 9m above ground.
