Car park construction underway

CONSTRUCTION has begun on the long-awaited extra car park at Bundaberg Hospital.

Heavy machinery yesterday started removing logs and vegetation from the site, which was previously used by the Bundaberg Pony Club.

The $203,000 car park is expected to fit about 130 extra cars and will be used predominantly by staff to free up street parking on Bourbong St.

Health minister Geoff Wilson promised the new car park in September after almost 2800 people signed a NewsMail petition for more parking at the public facility.

At the same time, he promised construction would start in November.

Construction is expected to take about six weeks and the car park will be opened early in the new year.

Member for Bundaberg Jack Dempsey welcomed the start of construction.

"It's great to see it finally come into fruition," he said.
