Construction of accommodation units under way

MATER Hospital Bundaberg's construction of 12 accommodation units within their hospital precinct is well under way.

The buildings will have two levels with each level having four single bed units, one two bedroom unit and one three bedroom unit making a total of 18 beds in each building.

The construction has been made possible via a grant through the Health and Hospital Infrastructure Grant program through the Department of Health and Aging.

Executive Officer Ivan Rasmussen said "these units will not only serve the accommodation needs of family and friends of patients in our hospitals but will also accommodate patients discharged from hospital who need to remain close to the hospital for follow up care as well as patients from out of town areas who are receiving treatment at our hospital."

The Mater recognised that having these accommodation uinits located in close proximity to the hospital can, at least help, to reduce this stress by ensuring that family and friends of the patient are more easily able to provide the love and support which is so important to the healing and recovery process.

It is expected that construction of the accommodation units at the Bundaberg Mater site will be completed by the end of the year.
