Conditions great for competition

KEEN anglers will have a chance to hook some great prizes at the Wuruma Dam Fishing Competition on February 27 and 28.

One of the event organisers, Noel Makings, said about 40 people had already registered.

Mr Making said while the recent rains had not affected dam levels, it had improved the fishing.

“People have been catching some big barramundi which has busted their gear,” he said.

“We have also been getting some big bass and yellowbelly.”

Mr Making said the camping grounds were also in great condition for anglers staying overnight.

Wuruma Dam Fish Stocking Association treasurer Rob Cooper said he expected more than 100 people to attend the event.

“The competition will start early Saturday morning and end at around midday on Sunday,” he said.
