Bundy in Bloom parade moved
AFTER complaints about the annual Bundy in Bloom parade clogging up the CBD, Bundaberg Regional Council has moved the celebration to Alexandra Park.
The decision was made at a general meeting on Tuesday after a number of businesses objected to the temporary road closure of Bourbong Street for the parade.
Ritchie’s Jeweller manager Margaret Wust said a number of local businesses felt there could be a safer venue for children, but a proposal to close off the street would cause problems.
“When a street gets blocked off there are frail elderly people that can’t walk three blocks to get to our business,” she said.
“We have nothing against children and the choir, but in regards to businesses that rely on customers, blocking off the street is not the best option.”
Red Capsicum manager Marree Baroni also supported the decision.
“Traffic conditions and children don’t mix and I think its relocation is a wise move,” she said.
