Competition heats up - literally - in Malaysian F1 practice

MOTORSPORT: Nico Rosberg may have been on fire figuratively during practice for the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix. But it was the Renault driven by Kevin Magnussen that literally went up in flames.

The Dane jumped from his car during a pit stop in the team garage after the top of the fuel tank caught fire.

The fire was brought under control after several minutes once the tank was drained, and the session resumed after the 15-minute delay.

A rupture at the crest of the bodywork, behind the on-board camera, caused the leak.

Championship leader Rosberg eventually set the best time, the German scorching the track in 1min 35.227sec - 0.494sec quicker than Mercedes teammate and closest rival Lewis Hamilton.

F1 Driver Championship: 1. Nico Rosberg 273, 2. Lewis Hamilton 265, 3. Daniel Ricciardo 179, 4. Sebastian Vettel 153, 5. Kimi Raikkonen 148.
